About the event

Explore Smokey House Center: Vermont’s Forest Health

Saturday, September 28 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Join Lars Lund, Protection Forester with the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, for a deep dive into the health of Vermont’s forests. This interactive walk and talk will cover pressing challenges facing our woods today, including non-native aggressive insects and diseases such as Emerald Ash Borer, Beech Leaf Disease, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, and the newly observed Elm Zigzag Sawfly. Lars will also highlight native insect and disease activity seen this year, as well as the impacts of ongoing drought conditions.

Participants will learn about the state’s monitoring, trapping, and treatment efforts, including the North American Maple Project research plots located here at Smokey House Center. This program is free and open to the public.
