About the event
While Vermont’s maple sugaring season is wrapping up, our spring forests will be just getting started preparing a whole new batch of sweet treats—spring ephemeral flowers! For a fleeting window from late April through mid-May, spring ephemerals carpet the leaflitter of our rich hardwood forests, offering a bonanza of pollen and nectar to early pollinators. On May 5th, come join Rose Gellman (Smokey House Center), Tessa McGann (County Forester), and Fen Levy-O’Malley (Audubon Vermont) for an evening ephemerals walk through the Smokey House Center sugarbush. We will practice ephemeral species identification, talk about their importance as indicators of soil health, and draw connections to biodiversity in the broader forest.
Meet at the Smokey House Center parking lot at 4:45 PM! From there we will walk the campus sugarbush from 5-7PM, and refreshments will be provided afterward.
