About the event

HWA is an invasive insect that has devastated native hemlocks for over 40 years all along the east coast. This insect pest has been moving northward into the rich hemlock forests of the Green Mountains. HWA has now been found in hemlock forests west of Manchester and other locations in Vermont.

Join us to learn how to identify, count and report HWA populations anywhere in Vermont. We will also  set up a Hemlock monitoring plot in a nearby Smokey House hemlock forest. Early detection is critical in combating this invasive insect, by providing information for targeted biological control releases that are now available.
