Youthwork Program

The Youthwork Program provides an alternative setting for 14- to 18-year-old students to learn academic, social, and work place skills. At Smokey House Center, local disadvantaged adolescents work and learn in a community they feel a part of and they know values them.

Students grow organic vegetables, blueberries and Christmas trees, make charcoal and maple syrup, raise sheep, and perform other farm and forestry tasks.

In crews of six, they are guided by an adult crew leader who weaves learning into each activity. Youthworkers earn academic credit and minimum wage for their work.
