Lambing
Internship
This internship runs from March to mid-April, starting
before the ewes start lambing and running until the end of
lambing season. We will have 16 ewes lambing this spring.
You will be involved in all aspects of sheep care and
lambing. This will involve cleaning the barn, checking the
ewes for health and signs of lambing, watching and assisting
with deliveries, and caring for the lambs (including tail
docking and ear tagging).
You will be expected to work an average of 40 hours per week
as well as doing weekend chores a few times. The work hours
will vary depending on the ewes and the lambs, and will
include nights and weekends. A schedule for checking the
sheep during the night will be worked out with the shepherd
and other staff, and will include middle of the night barn
checks. This internship requires being willing to be
flexible with your hours and your sleep. The more births you
attend, the more you will get out of the internship.
