Educational Internship
Now accepting applications for Spring 2010

During an educational internship at Smokey House Center, you will create, facilitate and assess applied learning experiences for middle and high school students.

You will work closely with experienced educators as you learn to integrate academic and personal skills development into work-based experiences. After an initial orientation/training session, you will spend several weeks working with staff and students in the Smokey House Field Studies program. Initially, you will observe the staff as you work side-by-side with the research team. As you become more comfortable with the students and tasks, you will begin to participate in lesson planning and eventually lead the students in their work and learning and assist in evaluating and documenting the students’ progress. Throughout your internship, you will participate in establishing group expectations that create a safe, healthy and productive working environment.

Responsibilities:  work closely with instructors conducting field research with middle and high school students:  integrating academic and personal skills into work-based experiences.

Qualifications:  genuine desire to work with youth, driver's license in good standing, good oral and written communication skills, willingness to work in extremes of heat and cold, wet, snow, and swampy, buggy conditions (though not usually all in the same day).  Some background in the natural sciences, carpentry, forestry, or agriculture helpful.

Housing and stipend provided.
