Executive Director

Smokey House Center Seeks an Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Smokey House Center, a non-profit organization located in Danby, VT, is searching for an Executive Director to administer its educational/conservation program.  Smokey House, which is located on 5,000 acres of mostly conserved farm and forest land, practices sustainable farm and forest management and engages local, disadvantaged teens in this work. We cultivate resilient youth, nutritious food, and healthy land.

The Board is seeking an Executive Director with the capacity to work in close collaboration with students, the Board of Directors, staff, public schools, granting agencies, federal and state government agencies, donors, and other organizations. The ideal candidate would have a solid educational background (including experience in working with teenagers); experience in  administration, budgeting and securing grants; familiarity with natural resources and their management (e.g., farming, forestry); and a comfort level in working with a range of constituencies (youth, staff, board, rural community, donors, funders).  Desired skills include leadership, conceptual thinking, writing, fund-raising, budgeting and financial management, an entrepreneurial mindset and the capacity to work with, relate to and inspire teenagers and staff.  Candidates must be self-motivated, independent workers, amenable to consensus decision-making, and willing to live in a rural environment.  Housing on the property will be available. Salary negotiable. Send resumes to Executive Director Search, P. O. Box 1643, Manchester Center, Vermont 05255.
